When You go -- You Should Know
Azalea Trail Second Loop
The large tree that fell across the trail has now been removed, and the second loop of the azalea trail is now open. A reroute around the remaining fallen trees is marked with orange tape. We will blaze it with blue paint within a couple of weeks. Our thanks to trail captain Dave Day and to Paul Ciochon for reopening the trail.
Hollow Creek Trail
A fence around the perimeter of the new "Peninsula" housing development has been installed, and the HCT has been rerouted in this area to stay outside the fence. A trail access point has also been established on Anderson Mill road and has been blue blazed. We plan to install a few signs to make the new route clearer. Try it out!

Oakman Trail and the Zig-Zag Bridge
The trees have been removed, and the bridge railings have been repaired. The Development Company contracted to remove three trees that had fallen on the bridge, and subsequently, five “carpenters” from the WTG repaired the railings. While we had the manpower and equipment at the site, we also completed the project to strengthen the top rail of the entire bridge. Thanks so much to our group of trail “carpenters” who did such a fine job. Thanks also to Scott Lycett and the Development Company for supplying the lumber that allowed these repairs to be made. Additionally, trail captains Rick and Martha have repainted several trail signposts and placed directional arrows and hiking chevrons on them. Jim and Rick also repainted the blue blazes on the entire trail. Everything is now complete, and the trail is in great shape. Go out and give it a try! We will be having an organized hike on the Oakman trail on New Year’s Day.
Creek Walk – Bog Bridge Repair
We recently removed 8 boards on the bog bridge and replaced them with new severe weather planking. The WWPOA graciously agreed to purchase the lumber and John Carman, and trail captain Jerry McDonald secured the lumber and delivered it to the site before the work party arrived. The work party consisting of Bob, Jerry, Susan, and two Jims carried the boards to the bog area, removed the rotting boards, and installed the new ones. The Creek Walk is now in good shape. It is an interesting little part of nature right in the middle of Woodside. Go check out the little library, and the signs identifying the numerous trees that are found there.
Village Trail
The construction of the new Publix on Silver Bluff Road is nearing completion. The rerouted trail goes up the hill near the retention pond and proceeds to the sidewalk on the left side of the new apartments [as you face the back of them] and subsequently along Village Green Blvd to join the old route. The walk around the retention pond has been reopened. The area between the trail and the Publix store has been newly landscaped and as the plants grow, they will form an effective screen. New stone topping was recently added, and the entire trail was regraded. A new safety fence was also added where the trail goes uphill from the retention pond. A map of the new route is shown below. Although big changes have been made, this is still an interesting trail, and all Woodside residents are welcome to use it.
