The following website information is now permanently posted on the "Home" page tab:
"This website is a joint production of Jim Pierce and Jim Lefebvre. Jim Pierce does most (if not all) of the planning for our hikes and also most of the actual write-ups before and after the hikes. Jim Lefebvre designed and built most of the website and is its webmaster. He does all the posting of past and future events. Just thought you would like to know how this enterprise works."

Woodside Trail Group News March 10, 2023
In February 2023 the WTG realized the completion of a long-term goal when the Mill Road Trail was converted from an IN and OUT trail to a circular route. This was done by connecting the trail to the Azalea trail. Hikers now have an option to
use the Mill Road trail and the two loops of the Azalea trail to create several nice hikes varying in length from 1.3 to 2.75 miles. The various loops are depicted below.
The new section of the Mill Road trail was blazed with blue paint and new signage will be installed in a few weeks. Many thanks to the work crew of David Day, Felipe Nunes, Paul Ciochan, Ken Moses, Jim LeFebvre and Jim Pierce who cleared the route, and built the bridge and stairs that made this possible. Also, many thanks to Scott Lycett and the Development Company for buying the lumber and transporting it to the site. This is a very nice addition to Woodside’s trail system!

Trail Maintenance (9-25-2022)
Over the summer the grass on the Hollow Creek Trail was cut twice and the trail is in excellent shape. The Azalea, Oakman, and Creek Walk are also in good shape. Later this fall we will blow the leaves off the bridges. Many thanks to the Development Company [Scott Lycett] for keeping the grass cut on our trails.
A short section of the Hollow Creek Trail near where it conjoins the equestrian trail was found to encroach on private property. The trail has been rerouted around this section. Trail signs will be installed. Be sure to follow the trail signs; respect private property.
There is an ongoing problem with vandals stealing signs [and even a post!] or removing sign posts and just leaving them on the ground. Signs and their posts are expensive and time consuming to replace. These signs and posts have been replaced and are now set in concrete. You can help by reporting missing signage and keeping a look out for suspicious activity on our trails. Report such activities to Jim Pierce 803-634-0513.

Website -- Name Change
We have had to make some changes to the WTG’s web address. We had a free website thru Weebly but Weebly got bought out by SQUARE in 2018 and now SQUARE has required us to update our website name. It turned out to not be as easy as you would expect and the net result was that in order to retain the free status we had to rename our website. The new address is woodside-trail-walker.weebly.com. The old address [woodsidetrailwalker.weebly.com] no longer works. Please use the new web address to find our site. Many thanks to Jim Lefebvre for taking care of our website.
The Butterfly Monarchy Club
A little bit about our group: We are a group of butterfly enthusiasts and we started "The Butterfly Monarchy Club" in 2021 within Woodside, Aiken, SC. It is open to everyone in the CSRA area, not just Woodside residents. Our Club Leadership consists of Susan Potter, Pat Dunlop, Molly French, Elaine McGowan, and Lou Anne Brossman. Our mission is to encourage community involvement and education for the well-being and preservation of all butterflies with special emphasis on Monarchs. We were recently designated the first Chapter of the North American Butterfly Association in South Carolina, known as the CSRA Chapter.
We do have a FaceBook page and it would be great if you would take an interest in us there.

We Build a New Trail Kiosk
I am always amazed by the talent we have in Woodside! On January 17th, a cold blustery day, a group of 6 Woodside residents met to build a trail kiosk. We had no detailed plan; just a picture of how it should look, and a bunch of keen and talented individuals. Previous to that date, two of us had meet with the Development Company’s Scott Leycett, to draw up a list of possible building material needs and Scott had everything ready and waiting when we got there on January 17th. Our building crew brought all their own equipment and since we were building “on site” it all had to be powered by battery or a generator. One person brought his generator! We all looked at the picture and, after some discussion, our builders got to work. In 5 hours, we had the kiosk up and all that remained was to install the plexiglass panel. That has now been completed, and you can find a beautifully situated kiosk, full of trail information, right near the trail head parking lot where 4 of Woodside’s best trails begin. THANKS GUYS!!

Root Removal from the Azalea Trail
On January 10, 2022 eight WTG members met at the trail head parking lot to remove roots that caused a tripping hazard on the Azalea trail. About 120 possible obstacles had been previously marked with orange tape and we got them all! Art said he had wished the guy with the orange tape had run out of tape sooner! Many thanks to the work crew; Jim Parker, Debbie Fadde, Art Fadde, Jim LeFebvre, Pattie Noblin, Ken Moses, David Burton, and Jim Pierce. The Azalea trail is in great shape – give it a try
